Amorphophallus Paeoniifolius, also known as Wart Stem Devil’s Tongue, is a plant from the Araceae family, commonly found in shrubs, riverside grass slopes, and wastelands. This plant has yet to be cultivated through human intervention. It thrives in humid air and fertile, moist soil.
During water-scarce winters, it enters a dormant period when its tuber dehydrates significantly, appearing wrinkled and lifeless.
With the arrival of the rainy season, either sprouts or flowers emerge directly from the tuber. This species is distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong provinces of China, as well as in countries like Vietnam and Thailand, often residing under tropical and subtropical forests.

The Wart Stem Devil’s Tongue appreciates humid air and fertile, moist soil. In water-scarce winters, it enters dormancy; its tuber dehydrates heavily, appearing shrunken and lifeless. Once the rainy season arrives, either sprouts or flowers grow directly from the tuber.
Distribution Range
This plant is found in several provinces of China, and in countries like Vietnam and Thailand. It is commonly found beneath tropical and subtropical forests.
Physical Characteristics and Features
Its leaf stem is tall and robust, reaching around 2 meters in height, covered with many irregularly shaped warts. The plant blooms from April to May, presenting large, unique flowers that emerge from the ground in an inverted ancient bell shape. The flower is covered by a Buddha flame bract, quite broad, about 30 cm high with a diameter of about 40 cm at the opening.
The outer upper part is purple, the lower part green, decorated with white patterns, and the inside is a deep purple. A meaty spike of flowers deeply hides within this bract, revealing only the conical green-purple appendage at the top.
