10 Merits of Offering Flowers to the Buddha

Offering flowers to the Buddha grants the following ten merits:

Offering fragrant flowers to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, or placing them before Buddha statues, is known as “Buddha’s Flower”. In “The Buddha Speaks of Karmic Retribution Differing in Three Periods of Time Sutra” and “Jewel Grove of the Dharma Garden, Volume 36,” ten merits of offering fragrant flowers to the Tathagatas are recorded:

3. Virtuous individuals who uphold the precepts are present everywhere.
4. To obtain an unimpaired sense of smell, capable of discerning various fragrances.
5. To excel in the world, garnering the respect of others.
6. To always maintain a body that’s clean and fragrant.
7. To delight in hearing and retaining the teachings of the Dharma.
8. To possess abundant merits.
9. To be reborn in heaven after death.
10. To swiftly attain Nirvana.

Flowers symbolize the cause, and offering flowers symbolizes cultivating good causes to attain good karmic outcomes.

Devotees can bring fresh flowers to the temple for offerings, or regularly offer flowers at home.
