This member of the tea plant family is a classic variety for pot cultivation and is known for having the strongest fragrance of any Camellia in the world. Its flowers are a subtle ivory pink, with deep pink edges appearing as faint bands on the petals.

I. Basic Introduction

The Fragrant Camellia is a heavily scented variety cultivated by Mr. J.R. Finlay of New Zealand from the red tea variety “Mrs. Hume’s Blush” x (“Sarah Bernhardt” x hybrid “Sweet Scented Water”), and was made public in 1986.

The flower is pale pink, deepening to red at the petal edges, with about 30 large petals, sometimes a few stamens transform into petals.

The anthers are golden-yellow, the filaments milky white, medium-sized flowers, 9-10 cm in diameter, semi-double to peony type, with a strong fragrance.

The leaves are gray-green, thin, with blunt serrations, vigorous growth, spreading, and flowering period is from February to April.

The Fragrant Camellia, also known as Heavenly Scent in Taiwan and also referred to as Intoxicating Scent and Thousand Mile Fragrance Tea, was introduced from New Zealand in recent years.
