To speed up the flowering of the plant, rhododendrons often promote new branches by topping.
For those that cluster and affect the flower shape, early bud thinning can not only make the flowers large and bright in the same year, but also benefit plant growth and flowering in the following year.
Rhododendrons have strong budding power. Branches seriously affect the growth and development of the plant, reducing its ornamental and commercial value, so branches need to be adjusted through pruning.
Pruning is generally done after the flowers fade in spring and in autumn, cutting off dead branches, slanting branches, excessively long branches, pest-infested branches and some crossing branches, to avoid nutrient consumption and enable the entire plant to bloom fully.
Rhododendrons undergo flower bud differentiation in autumn. Through refrigeration and heating treatments, the flowering period can be artificially controlled.
To make rhododendrons bloom earlier, they can be moved to a greenhouse for cultivation, with the temperature controlled at 20-25 degrees Celsius, and water frequently sprayed on the branches and leaves to maintain a relative humidity of over 80%.
In this way, they can bloom in a month and a half. To delay the blooming of rhododendrons, let the rhododendrons that have formed flower buds remain in a low-temperature state, maintaining a temperature of 2-4 degrees Celsius, water when the pot is dry, move outside in summer and autumn, and they can bloom in two weeks.
Cuttings are the most frequently used propagation method in growing azaleas. Typically, healthy semi-woody new branches are cut around 5-6 cm in length during May-June.
The bottom leaves are removed, leaving 2-3 top leaves for the cutting. The base of the cutting is preferably treated by dipping it in a solution of indole butyric acid or ABT rooting powder, then planted in loose, breathable, acidic soil rich in humus.

After the disease occurs, spray a 65-80% manganese-zinc solution 500 times diluted or 0.3-0.5 pomadour 3-4 times, every 7-10 days.
Leaf spot and brown spot diseases can be effectively controlled by spraying a 70% methyl tobuzin solution diluted 1000 times, a 20% rust-prevention solution diluted 4000 times, and a 50% manganese-zinc solution diluted 500 times from May to August.
Spray every 10 days, for a total of 7-8 times. To prevent leaf yellowing, ferrous sulfate can also be applied.
Affected young leaves are covered with a dense layer of white or pink mites, sometimes causing leaf galls, often caused by aphid bites.
Prevention methods include: spraying copper sulfate while removing diseased leaves; spraying an oxidized fruit emulsion or placing fenthion directly in the pot can prevent aphids and other piercing insects.
