Wu Fei Lian Lotus: Unveiling the Beauty of This Japanese Variety

The Nelumbo nucifera ‘Wu Fei Lian’ is a variety introduced from Japan. In 1966, Japanese lotus expert Sakamoto Yuji bred it by crossing the American Yellow Lotus with the Japanese ‘Da He Lian’.

‘Wu Fei Lian’ is a standout among large lotus flowers, with its large plant type, bi-color, and few petals, it can be described as the crown of flowers.

Its petals are particularly large, and its flower posture is free and elegant, like a queen dancing, hence the name ‘Wu Fei Lian’. ‘Wu Fei Lian’ is suitable for pond planting and is especially good when planted with other aquatic plants.

The flowers of ornamental lotuses are generally larger, with the diameter of the large lotus flowers often being 20cm. ‘Wu Fei Lian’, however, is a standout among the large lotus flowers, with the diameter of its largest flower reaching over 35cm.
