The Gardenia Ellis Fortuniana, also known as the Four Seasons Gardenia, is a plant of the Rubiaceae family. This variety is a dwarf shrub with many branches growing in oblique directions.
Its leaves are smaller and narrower than those of other gardenias, taking an inverted lanceolate or ovate shape. The flowers are double-petaled and can bloom throughout the year under proper care.
They have a captivating fragrance and a crystalline, jade-like color. When juxtaposed against the green leaves, they appear exceptionally charming and cute.

The Four Seasons Gardenia is shade-tolerant and thrives in warm, humid climates. It does not fare well under strong sunlight. It prefers loose, fertile, water-retentive, and well-drained acidic soil.
This plant is fond of fertilizers and can benefit from organic fertilizers such as cake fertilizer or pig manure.

Any time of year is suitable, but the most optimal time is between May and July when the branches are growing vigorously.
Choose semi-lignified branches from the current year’s growth, and cut them into about 10cm sections with leaves. Each section should have 2 to 3 leaves, and one-third of each leaf should be cut off.
The upper end of the detached material should be cut flat 1cm from the top bud, and the lower cut end near the node should be cut at a 45° angle.
During rapid propagation, soak the lower cut end of the material in a solution of 500 mg/kg naphthylacetic acid for 5 to 10 seconds or treat it with a commercially available rooting agent, then insert it at a density of 10cm x 10cm into an intelligent seedling bed to a depth of about 5cm.
Activate the intelligent control system immediately after propagation. Roots should form after about 20 days, with a survival rate of over 98%.

The Four Seasons Gardenia is prone to scale insects, red spiders, and sooty mold during hot summers and in poor ventilation conditions.
To prevent scale insects, spray a 1000-fold dilution of 40% Le Fruit emulsion; to control red spiders, spray a 1000 to 1500-fold dilution of 40% triazophos emulsion.
This can also reduce the occurrence of sooty mold. For safety in home settings, a spray of laundry detergent can also have a certain effect.
