Eichhornia crassipes is a floating aquatic herb. It has well-developed adventitious roots that are dark brown in color. The stems are very short and have creeping branches that are light green in color.
The leaves are arranged in a rosette at the base of the plant, with round-shaped leaf blades that are deep green in color. The leaf stalks vary in length and have numerous air chambers composed of polygonal columnar cells, with scattered vascular bundles in between.

Select ponds with a large number of flowering plants. Do not harvest them. In September and October, when the small fruits turn pale yellow, remove the curved fruit stalks. Dry them in the shade and remove the fruit peel to extract the seeds.
If you rub the flowers that have exposed pollen on the stigma in the morning between 9-10 o’clock during peak flowering, the seeds will be more plump and full.
